I feel that after graduating from a highschool where violence was common, taking the time necessary to protect the lives of children and young adults who are trying to make a successful life for themselves is a very necessary measure. Inspite of the fact that some people feel that using metal detectors is a waste of precious time that could be spent learning, I think that saving a life is much more important. If taking 10 minutes out of school time each day is going to affect the students that much, then maybe something should be done to incorporate this into the school hours.
These children deserve the right to know that When they sit in their class each day, they are safe. If they can not learn in school and not be afraid of what a classmate has in their bookbag, then where will they learn. If it takes metal detectors to make the school a safehaven then I say go for it, especially for the sake of the children who fight the battle everyday!
