OJJDP: Direction and Focus for 2002 and Beyond Thursday, December 6, 2001 1:30-3:30 PM EST

On August 21, 2001, President Bush appointed Terrence S. Donahue to serve as the Acting Administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Donahue's leadership responsibilities include identifying effective strategies for addressing juvenile crime through research; coordinating, implementing, and supporting effective programs and encouraging innovative approaches to deal with existing and emerging juvenile justice issues; developing priorities and goals and setting policies to guide Federal juvenile justice issues; providing technical assistance and training to essential components of the juvenile justice system; disseminating information on juvenile justice trends, programs and new approaches; and awarding funds to States to support local programming nationwide.

Broadcast Objectives

The telecast will introduce viewers to Mr. Donahue, who will provide an overview of the Bush Administration's direction and focus for the agency in the coming years. Mr. Donahue and other panelists will discuss the agency's Program Plan for 2002, which describes future funding activities generated by several of the agency's Congressional appropriations. The telecast will also focus on a new Faith-based and Community-based Initiative, which will be launched in the coming months; the initiative will provide assistance to faith-based and community-based organizations that offer prevention, intervention, and treatment services related to juvenile justice.

This broadcast is designed for juvenile justice practitioners, juvenile court judges and staff, policymakers, community leaders, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation and parole officers, child advocates, social service agencies, educators, law enforcement agencies, and others interested in improving the lives of troubled children and enhancing the juvenile justice system's response to them.
